Why Home Rekey & Key Duplication Beats Changing Every Lock
Many Sarasota homeowners assume that replacing the entire lockset is the only way to regain security after a move, a breakup, or a missing key incident. In most cases, rekeying is a more precise solution. The lock cylinder — specifically its driver pins and key pins — is what determines which key operates the lock. When a trained technician rekeys a cylinder, they disassemble it, swap the pin stack to a new configuration, and reassemble it to factory tolerances. The result is a lock that is mechanically indistinguishable from a brand-new one, operated only by the newly cut key. Your existing Schlage or Kwikset hardware, your existing door prep, and your existing finish all stay intact.
Where key duplication fits in is equally important. Once your locks are all reconfigured to that single new key, having two or three precision-cut duplicates stored safely — not handed out casually — gives you redundancy without sacrificing control. We cut duplicates on-site using professional equipment, so the copies are made to the same tolerances as the original, not the worn-down copy-of-a-copy that a lot of drawer junk-keys turn into over the years. If your property has high-security cylinders with restricted keyways, we can duplicate those on-site as well, provided you can verify ownership — a step we take seriously for your protection.
